As we have said. This site is quite daunting for us. We're placing all of our material online, so that people can view it, comment on it, use it and help us make it stronger. In order to easily navigate the site, it's split into three sections:

1. Open to All
Just a few pages on the LIFE initiative, what it stands for, its history and a 'Learn More' section.

2. Registration
If you want to know more about LIFE, you need to register and log-on. You can do that here. It's free, and we ask you to log-on so that you can post comments, and upload other material that will help everyone to develop ideas in this area. Once you have logged-on, you have access to two new, much larger areas of the site. First you can access all the resources used for LIFE, including all the tools. Second you have access to the Team Handbook, containing all the details about the fundamental principles of LIFE, the training manuals, how capabilities can be developed, and the phases of the LIFE journey.

3. Guide for Set-Up
If you are considering using the LIFE material, then we have a further section that helps overcome many of the inherent issues with setting it up. If you wish to have access to this section, you will need to contact us for a special upgrade on your account (which is also free of charge).

The philosophy and principles around this site
takes into account the following:
  • We are living what the LIFE initiative is all about, taking risks ourselves, so others will follow. Share ourselves and our work, so others will share themselves and theirs. So, what risks are we taking? We're risking that people will use this material for commercial gain. We're risking appearing that we have a whole new approach, and a new set of answers to very complex situations. We're risking exposing ourselves to criticisms. We think it is a risk worth taking.
  • We trust you. Trust you to respect what we are trying to do, because we believe that we need to do things different, in order for others to do the same.
  • Most sites have Terms and Conditions of use. We don't. We have a Joint Commitment Agreement, and it outlines the boundaries of our relationship.
  • You will be giving us some of your previous information. Our Privacy Statement lets you know all the issues surrounding this.
  • Gone are the days when people can say they have the best way of doing things. Gone are the days when doing one thing in one area means that it is ok to be territorial. We believe in collaboration, and we believe together we can build something stronger.
  • Our goal is to provide a safe, informative and constructive online environment. We ask that the posting of comments not be solely critical, but that they also contain constructive advice and alternative actions. We ask that all participation and contribution be respectful of others and their views.

The LIFE programme is the product of an 18 month intensive partnership between Participle, Swindon Borough Council and One Swindon. Together we have built the LIFE initiative, which is currently being implemented in Swindon. With funding from NESTA, we are able to share all the material via this website. This digital environment was developed by Headshift.
